Tips for Smooth Sailing on Your Wedding Day - BANG Images / Shooting the Ones You LOVE

You know your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life. You also know that a wedding, although exciting, can be a little stressful. Well, it doesn’t have to be! There are many things you can do that will ensure your day’s success and that you'll be a happy, relaxed couple. Here are a few good tips for smooth sailing on your wedding day.

Hiring someone to help you with your wedding is probably one of the best gifts you can give yourself, outside of hiring your favorite wedding photographer to document your day of course. Two of the main options are a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator.

Hiring a wedding planner may seem like a frivolous expense, because you are a GREAT planner, and maybe you’ve thrown many a fabulous party, but trust me when I say, you do NOT want to be in charge of planning your wedding day alone. I know it’s hard to relinquish control, but you will be so happy you did. Besides, you’ll have a lot of say so, without all the stress. A wedding planner will not only help you set a realistic budget, but they usually have an incredible vendor list and will handle communication among all the businesses you choose. In addition, they’re an important resource for wedding and reception venues. A planner is responsible for many things, and does just what the title suggests-plans the wedding with your input.

If your wedding budget doesn’t allow for a wedding planner, then consider a wedding coordinator. A coordinator is also helpful but isn’t quite as involved in the planning process. They help you while you do most of the planning, confirm scheduling you’ve already made with vendors, help with a wedding day timeline, and then make sure the wedding day itself runs smoothly. With all these wonderful tasks taken care of, still probably my favorite reason to hire someone to help is because they will make sure your wedding day runs smoothly. Both a wedding planner and wedding coordinator will help keep everyone in line so-to-speak with the aid of a timeline (which they create with a little help from your photographer). Some planners will even help you organize and secure your travel plans for your honeymoon!

Whatever you decide to pay someone to take care of, always hire professionals. This applies to all vendors. You want the best for your wedding day. Do a little investigating before you hire someone that you're going to depend on greatly to make your day smooth sailing. I'm not saying you have to have the most expensive vendor from every genre. But if you hire someone, make sure they're worth the money. And once again, your wedding planner or coordinator can help with this; utilize them!

Consider a first look before the ceremony. This is beneficial for so many reasons. Ask your wedding photographer to set aside a little time for the two of you to see each other looking your finest, without an audience. Your photographer can position themselves so they don't invade your personal space. You can spend an intimate moment together to mellow the intensity a bit in comparison to seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony. Don't worry, it's still incredibly special to see each other for the first time on your wedding day. It's just special without feeling like everyone is witness to you losing your composure. A first look also allows your photographer to take the majority of your posed portraits before the ceremony. You know what this means, right? You'll get to your reception faster! You'll get to eat and drink! Your guests won't have to wait for you to finish your photos, and your great grandmother will still be there instead of tiring of waiting and going home.

This seems like simple advice, almost not worth mentioning because honestly, who forgets to eat? YOU. That's who. You'll be wrapped up in the activities of the day. You'll put off eating, or maybe just nibble on a carrot here or a chip there. Make sure you remember to eat so that you don't feel weak. And remember a protein snack will get you a lot farther than one full of carbs.

Your wedding day will come. All of your planning will pay off and it will be lovely and memorable and like all the weddings before yours, uniquely yours.
